Printer Recommendations

The biggest thing I would say about printers in to not buy an inkjet printer. Unless you're in a business constantly printing high-quality pictures, you just don't need one. It will be more finnicky and more expensive than a laser printer. Unlike ink, toner doesn't dry up and make your cartridges stop working. Also HP just seems to make low-quality products prone to breaking in my opinion.

Brother HL-L2300D Monochrome Laser Printer
This is the printer I own and what I expect probably 80% of people to need. It's cheap and reliable, just a no-thrills, good printer. It only does black and white, but really that's all most people need. If you need photos go to Walmart or whatever and get them professionally printed.

Brother HL-L3210CW
This is basically the same thing, but with support for color printing and no automatic double-sided printing. It also has wireless support if you want that. It's probably the most economical color printer available.

Brother HL-L3230CDW
This is the same thing as the last one but with duplex printing. If you need to print on both sides often, it's probably worth the price difference.

Canon PIXMA G6020
If you need to print cardstock at home, you'll need an inkjet printer. I like this Canon PIXMA G6020 because it has a reasonably accessible load tray and the ability to buy third-party ink at economical rates. Downsides are that there's no document feeder, the load tray still is a bit awkward, and it can get clogged like any inkjet printer.
